Life doesn’t come with a syllabus, and cancer sure didn’t give me a heads-up. After years of grinding through my PhD, I thought the hardest chapter was behind me. Then came the unexpected: a breast cancer diagnosis. It’s raw, it’s overwhelming, but it’s also oddly clarifying.
I’ve spent years teaching, mentoring, and building programs to empower others. Now, I’m in a fight of my own—one that demands the same resilience I’ve encouraged in countless adolescents. Surgery is set for December 20th, and while I’ve tried to do this solo, I’m learning that strength also means asking for help.
This is more than a fight against cancer; it’s a fight for what comes after. For the work I still have to do. For the students and communities I haven’t reached yet. For the chance to fully show up in the world I’m still shaping.
Your support—whether it’s a donation, a share, or simply a kind word—means the world right now. Together, we can turn this challenge into another chapter of purpose.
With gratitude and a heart ready to fight,
Erica
